April 5, 2021: To make farming future-ready, Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) has started to prepare training programs for farmers to be imparted through Rythu Vedikas and is planning to get people ready for operating drones that are to be used for plant protection measures.

As per a report by The Hindu, in tune with the state government’s plans to promote automation in farming along with leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning not only to overcome the labour shortage but also to improve the quality of crop production, PJTSAU has decided to develop an outline for drone application in the agriculture sector and demystify the drone technology as well.

Given that the Telangana government is keen to deploy drones in agriculture, especially in the plant protection measures like insect attacks and pest detection along with remedial measures including spraying of pesticides, PJTSAU is relentlessly working in the same area for a while now. The university is the first educational institution to get DGCA approval in India for its research in the scope of drone technology in the field of agriculture.

This apart PJTSAU has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with MIT Anna University to carry forward innovations in drone technology for the benefit of Telangana’s farmers and stakeholders.
