April 6, 2021: According to a report by Hindustan times, about 12 to 20 Maoists were killed in an encounter with the security forces over the weekend in Bijapur, Chattisgarh. In what is termed as one of the deadliest attacks in recent years, the information regarding the deaths was supported by the aerial surveillance inputs taken by a Heron drone. The pictures revealed that two tractor-trolleys were used to carry the dead Maoists into dense forests. The drone also captured movements of many Maoist teams and the wireless intercepts suggested that the Maoists tracked the movement of the security forces.

On Saturday, a firefight reportedly broke out between the security forces and the Maoists, and grenade launchers were used by both parties. The security team later moved towards an open area to aid the evacuation of the injured. Later, the troops recovered the body of a Maoist woman with an INSAS rifle.

On Sunday, Mr. Amit Shah, the Union home minister held a top-level meeting with senior officers in New Delhi regarding the incident. Home secretary Ajay Bhalla, intelligence bureau director Arvind Kumar, and senior CRPF officers attended the meeting.
