April 4, 2021: Ahead of the Kerala elections, there are 396 critical and 3000+ sensitive polling booths that are identified across the state. Critical booths are those places where more than 75% of votes were cast in favor of one candidate last time and where re-polls were conducted due to malpractices while sensitive booths are those places where incidents of violence or clashes between parties have been reported recently.
The majority of critical booths are located in Wayanad, Malappuram, Palakkad, Kannur and Kozhikode. In many vulnerable areas, where voters are in constant threats, police have deployed patrolling units. To tighten security on the day of elections, the state police plan to leverage drone technology for aerial surveillance alongside manpower deployment. These measures will ensure free and fair elections.
