Why Do I need Drone Insurance?

As per CAR Section 3- Air Transport Series X Part I, issued dated 27th Aug 2018 and effective 1st Dec 2018 F. No. 05-13/2014- AED Vol. IV, clause 17.1, Third Party Liability insurance is mandatory for operating Drones.

The coverage from HDFC ERGO covers third party liabilities for a maximum limit of INR 10,00,000.

Are you Broker, Insurance Intermediary, Corporate Agency, Web Aggregator or an Insurer?

We are neither of the above. We are an integrated drone marketplace that is trying to orchestrate the drone ecosystem in India. We have purchased Aviation Insurance (Drones) from HDFC Ergo (Insurer) which is specially designed for members of TropoGo who are operating Drones. TropoGo members wishing to buy the Third Party Liability coverage for their drones have to enroll and buy this Insurance from TropoGo app.

How do I change my account details?

TropoGo app allows you to change your account details (typos in name, email ID, phone number and address) with a few simple taps. Go to the 'My Profile' section and change/update your account details.

Which devices is TropoGo available on?

TropoGo is available on Android devices. Now purchase your drone insurance anywhere, anytime.

Is it possible to cover the drone when it is flying outside India?

Coverage is available only in India, more specifically as opted by the member while buying Insurance. Kindly note that at the time of claim you will have to prove that you had the necessary permit to fly a particular geographical area.

Can I be insured if I don't have an OAN/DAN?

Sorry, OAN/DAN is a mandatory requirement for insurance purchases under the DGCA regulations. You must have a valid OAN/DAN before you purchase insurance through the TropoGo app.

Which type of Drones can be enrolled under the coverage?

Insurance can be purchased for Micro, Small, Medium, and Large drones. Nano drone insurance is not available at the moment.

Are there any upfront costs?

There are no upfront costs for any purchase made on TropoGo. You only pay for the actual coverage and for the actual duration for which you require the insurance.

What all will be covered under my Certificate?

The Insurer will indemnify the Insured for all sums which he shall become legally liable to pay, and shall pay, as compensatory damages (including costs awarded against the Insured) in respect of Accidental Bodily injury (fatal or otherwise) and accidental Property Damage to third party caused by the Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) whilst such Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) is being operated by the Insured subject to maximum of Limit of Indemnity mentioned on the Certificate of Insurance, which is currently being offered for Rs. 10,00,000.

We can provide cover for drones being used for following commercial activities such as :

CANCELLATIONS

How can I cancel my certificate of Insurance?

You can cancel your coverage before the risk start time as per certificate of Insurance. Simply go to the TropoGo app, choose your certificate of Insurance, and hit 'Cancel'.

Once opted for "cancel coverage", your coverage will be cancelled and refund amount will be credited back to you in 3 - 4 working days.

After risk commencement the coverage is not refundable even after cancellation. To Make your Life easy TropoGo will send you reminders 48 Hours & 24 hours prior to coverage start time.

Do I get charged admin fees for cancelling my coverage?

Neither our Insurance Partner nor Do we Charge any fees for cancellation. You get a full refund. However, TropoGo deducts INR 50 which we incur as payment gateway charges to process your refund request.

Can I make corrections to my coverage after purchase?

Hourly & Daily Coverage: Corrections cannot be made for hourly and daily coverages. If you wish to make any corrections, simply cancel your certificate of Insurance through the TropoGo app before risk commencement date and time, and purchase a new certificate of Insurance.

Monthly Coverage: If you have purchased a one-month coverage, you can send a change request Only After the coverage has started. We have offered flexibility to make changes to minor, unintentional & typing mistakes. Changes you can request for are name, Address, Contact details.

You cannot make any corrections to:

  • Product serial number/OAN/DAN
  • Coverage period
  • Drone details

Steps to submit Change Request:

  • Log into your TropoGo app
  • Go to Insurance tab under Menu
  • Tap on My Insurance Certificate & Select the Certificate of Insurance
  • Tap three dots on the right-hand side of the screen and select Edit Coverage.
  • Make required changes and Update.

A revised endorsement certificate will be sent on your registered email id within 24 working hours.

After risk commencement the coverage is not refundable even after cancellation. Don't worry. We will send you reminders 48 Hours & 24 hours prior to coverage start time.

Do I get charged admin fees for making adjustments to my coverage?

Never! You can make adjustments to your policies at any time without any admin fee. Get complete freedom to change your basic details at any time.

SUBMISSION

Under what circumstances can my claim be denied, and my coverage be cancelled?

As a cover rule, if you fail to abide by any law or regulation, the coverage provider holds the right to deny the claim, even cancel the certificate of Insurance. Make sure that you maintain the following regulations so that there are no problems at the time of claim settlement:

  • You must comply with all air navigation and airworthiness orders and requirements issued by a competent authority
  • The RPAs must be maintained as per the manufacturer’s maintenance guidelines for RPA and Certificate of Compliance for NPNT
  • The operator must ensure that all security measures as enumerated in the Security Programme (approved by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security) are in place before operation of each flight
  • In case of any change of circumstances or change in the nature of risk, the same must be immediately informed to the insurance provider. Unless these changes are accepted by the insurer, the claim may be denied
  • The logbooks and other required records must be maintained as per regulations and must be produced at the request of insurance provider
  • You must not intentionally make false or fraudulent claims as regards to the amount or provide incorrect information
  • You must not fly your RPA before sunlight or after sunset
  • Any other exclusions in your coverage as mentioned in your certificate of insurance

How do I make a claim?

Go to “My Insurance Certificates” section in the TropoGo app menu.

  • Select the certificate of Insurance that you want to make the claim for
  • Click on 'Make a Claim'
  • We will send you an email with Claims Submission form with Detailed instructions.
  • Fill in all the incident details and provide the necessary documentation

For a successful claim submission, the following details will need to be provided:

  • Duly filled in Claim Form
  • Incident details-, description of flight mission
  • Details of the Pilot
  • Date and time of incident
  • Location of the incident
  • Details of Affected Third parties
  • Drone serial no, DAN , OAN,
  • Images of drone and impact location
  • Drones Flight log
  • Requisite permissions issued by Competent Authority for flying
  • Proof of submission of Incidence / Accident to DGCA as per Annexure VIII appended to CAR Guidelines dated 1st December 2018.

Once all the information is received, we will send it to HDFC ERGO who will review the claim and make the final settlement.

Am I required to give HDFC ERGO access to my drone if I make a claim?

Yes, if you make an insurance claim, HDFC ERGO will require complete access to flight logs, and drone specs to make an informed decision about claim settlement. Providing complete access will also ensure that your claim is processed and settled in the minimum possible time.
